Netflix allows users to watch offline

On Wednesday it was announced that Netflix will be allowing users to download and view selected programming for offline viewing.

In a statement from Netflix, they said, ‘many of your favorite streaming series and movies are already available for download, with more on the way’.

Content for offline playback can be downloaded after an app update to iOS and Android devices.

Rumours had been circling since June that offline playback would be coming to Netflix as a new feature, but it was only yesterday confirmed that this was the case, from Netflix’s Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos.

It appears that the focus may be on original content thus far, with shows like Orange is the New Black, The Crown and Stranger Things all available for download.

We will see in the coming months how Netflix’s new offline streaming feature will develop.
